Lake Louise
Speed, Stillness, Glacier Lake
This is the close to final of my upcoming Lake Louise poster. I just have to add the texture of the stained glass, but it is ready to pre-order if you'd like to secure a first, second or third numbered edition.
My Lake Louise research trip was in early April 2024. A stained glass window?Three reasons: First, I think it's cool the World Downhill Course is marked and I got lucky that I had Men's Downhill completely to myself on my first run. The curves of the run pushed me faster but at the same time I wanted to stop and look at the postcard view straight ahead of me. I never have had the urge to go fast and to be still at the same time like that. So I tried for the feeling of reverent stillness you get from a cathedral's stained glass window, but fill it with motion. Of course the skier in motion had to be Lindsey Vonn aka " Lake Lindsey". Second, the light coming through the distant glacier feeding Lake Louise reminded me of glass. Third, while exploring Lodge of Ten Peaks I found a little stained glass window of a lake scene. Also , the eight yellow squares on the corners symbolize the resort's eight World Ski Awards.
Other things that I will probably work into this poster: is a ptarmigan, a pika, a raven, a grizzly, a crown for Princess Louise and the pillows of Rock Garden (my kid's favorite run) If you think I've missed something, let me know and it will might make it into the final poster.
